Orion Scalability Engines

Overview

Remember Lincoln Log? You know… the sets of little notched out logs with which you could build houses or entire cities before Xbox took over the world. Okay, so maybe Xbox isn’t so bad, but weren’t the Lincoln Logs® a great concept – interchangeable pieces with unlimited ways to use them. The Orion platform is based on the same idea – one reliable fault and performance management platform with Scalability Engines that fit the needs of any corporate network.

Orion Scalability Engines enable you to scale the network management capabilities of Orion as your network grows and your needs change. Scalability Engines include:

  • Additional Polling Engine - the addition of another Polling Engine distributes polling load between multiple servers for large enterprise networks.
  • Additional Web Server - adding an additional web server enables more users to access the Orion web portal without affecting performance.
  • Hot Standby Engine – this engine automatically assumes monitoring responsibility if any of the primary pollers go down, providing a reliable backup that ensures data collection never ceases.

Features

The Orion Hot Standby Engine will consistently check the primary systems' ability to function and record availability and performance data. In the event of a failure, the Hot Standby Engine will automatically assume network monitoring responsibility. When a failed polling engine returns to an operational state, the Hot Standby Engine will automatically return all monitoring tasks to the original polling engine.Orion EOC scales to monitor more than a million network elements using a WAN-optimized architecture that prevents any degradation in network performance. That means you can rest assured that regardless of how big or fast your network grows, Orion EOC has you covered.

Key Features:

  • Continuously checks the primary Orion system for activity
  • Automatically takes over monitoring, statistic collection and alerting if the primary system is down
  • Automatically enters into "standby mode" when the primary Orion server recovers
  • Sends notifications for polling engine failures
  • Offers one-to-many failover capability
  • Runs on a separate server leveraging your existing SQL database
  • Includes a redundant Website
  • Does not back up the Orion database (Uses Database Manager or SQL Enterprise Manager to perform backups)
  • Must be installed on a separate server

With the addition of another Polling Engine, the polling load for Orion is distributed between multiple servers for large enterprise networks – a typical bottleneck when polling thousands of devices on large enterprise networks.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Allows you to distribute device polling across multiple servers
  • Increases the performance and scalability for users with large networks to manage

By adding an additional web server, the Orion website can be run on a different machine than the Orion server, enabling more users to access the Orion web portal without affecting performance and providing increased scalability and deployment flexibility.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Enables more users to access the Orion web portal without performance degradation
  • Increases scalability and provides flexibility in deploying Orion
